About.

VUE is an application created for SpaceForce to task sensors worldwide in tracking satellites, space objects, and debris. The problem we faced was how to allow tasking managers the power to place hard capacity limits on sensors as to not over task, and provide more clarity around downtime and sensor capability limits. The work done here was taking an existing application and introducing improvements and features for workflow and leadership knowledge.

Solutions, before and after.

Adding an additional text field to an already chaotic screen seemed unreasonable, and a missed opportunity.

The solution here was to create a tab menu bringing clarity and additional functionality to the tasking process. We added hard capacity and subtleties around the differences in sensors.

First things first, learn and adapt to what came before in order to begin thinking about what could come next.

Context and motives.

Having control and visibility to everything that is going to affect decision making in one place was a priority in going about how to start sketching out new ideas for this new work flow. After interviews with the head of these collection managers to get a better idea of the motives behind why these capacity limits needed to be introduced we held a design studio.

Knowing your strengths, and the strengths of your team.

Even though I was the designer responsible for this feature improvement there were developers on my team who worked on the app previously and because of this we held a design studio with the team to get feedback and insight on what the best solution could be.
